Let's be clear. There's nothing wrong with non-straight hair! But we're never happy are we? I know many women with beautiful curly hair who want straight hair. And my friends with gorgeous straight hair who long for curly locks. So if you do have thick hair, and want it to be perfectly straight.
Hair straighteners are extremely versatile. They work by flattening the hair's follicle and you can use them to create any look; sleek straight, bold curls, loose waves. So whether you're just about to get your vlogging camera out to start filming your day, these straighteners really do bring the salon into your home. No matter what your hair type.
There are many things to consider when buying hair straighteners for thick hair. The thing to remember is, with thick hair you're going to need a professional standard hair straightener. There's a lot of hair to get through, and thick hair is often more coarse, so you need straighteners that are really up to the job.
We've not talked about cost. This is absolutely a consideration. Whilst our number 1 straightener in this review (the ISA professional Flat Iron Hair Straighteners) are the best around, particularly for thick hair. They are a LOT more expensive. And although they do a great job and will last a long time, you could go for something 1/6 of the price and still get straighteners that do a good job. Something to think about.
Let's talk straightening your hair for those with thick hair. Because, depending on the texture of your hair, the technique you use will vary.
If you're a hair-straightener-virgin, you will probably be a little wary the first time you pick up your straighteners. The technique does take some practice. So to start with, unless you have wet to dry straighteners, you always start with dry hair. And the more naturally curly your hair, the more success you will have if you've used a hair dryer to smooth out your hair a little first.
The most important thing to remember when it comes to technique is you must section your hair out. If you have thick hair, I'm not talking about into 3 or 4 sections. I mean more like 10. Taking one section at a time (and leaving the rest clipped up out of the way, place the straighteners right at the root of the hair and pull them down the shaft to the tips and off. Repeat on each section until you're happy with the look before moving on. Work your way through all the sections.
Your hair does need protecting from the high heat all hair straighteners give off. There are several products you can use to spray on your hair before straightening to protect against the heat. We would also recommend a hair serum or oil when you're finished, particularly on the mid-end of your hair to replenish and prevent fly aways.
With any one of our best hair straighteners for thick hair, you'll find your hair styling revolutionised. And we have something for everyone. From top of the range in every way (including cost), to a great set of hair straighteners for thick hair no matter how wavy, and finally our hair straighteners wet to dry which are brilliant for any hair type as long as not curly.
The only thing not to like about this product is the price. And although they're expensive, they're not over-priced. These straighteners do an amazing job on any hair type; no matter how thick or curly your hair.
Any hair type, no matter how thick, how curly, will absolutely be tamed using these hair straighteners. The solid tourmaline ceramic plates leave hair silky smooth with minimal effort. The SMART automatic temperature adjustment changes based on your hair's thickness and styling needs. So you don't have to worry about this. It is so smart that it will change from higher when doing your thickest hair, to lower when working on those thin fly-aways.
These aren't cheap. In fact they can be expensive. But not over-priced. In this case, you get what you pay for. But you need to decide if it's worth it!
Even distribution, adjustable temperature from 240 - 400 Fahrenheit with ceramic tourmaline plates. A great set of straighteners at a really good price.
These are definitely professional standard hair straighteners. Their adjustable heat control makes these perfect for thick hair. The 1" plates allow maximum control to style your hair, and the plates heat up in a flash so there's no waiting around. Great straighteners at a great price. We loved them.
We found these straightened on thick hair far better than thin hair. No problem you say as you have thick hair. Well maybe. But be aware that on any fly-aways you may find the straighteners less effective.
Now here's something different. You can use these wet or dry. They heat up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and the plates vaporize excess water as they glide down the hair, releasing steam through specially designed holes in the straightener. This protects your hair from over-drying saving you time having to blow dry before straightening. They can then be used in dry mode after this, and we'd recommend this for those with curlier or thicker hair.
You get rid of your hair dryer! And if you've got thick hair you know the pain that is drying your hair. It just takes so long and kind of hurts your arms after a while! For hair with more of a curl you absolutely still need to straighten them in dry mode afterwards, but it is good not to have to use the hair dryer for a change! The 2 inch plates are really efficient too if you're wanting to achieve a straight look.
A couple of things. Firstly you need to dry the plates off before you put them away. Just to protect against rust. Secondly, the 2 inch plates are great for speed on thicker hair. But you will lose some control over styling with the larger plates.
Something for everyone with our top three. Although the ISA Professional came in at number 1 we know that they're not cheap. And the HSI Professional is a very similar option with more bang for your buck. Finally if you want to have an all in one option and get rid of your hair dryer the Remington is fab. All three are great, the choice is yours.
