Why Buy a Posture Corrector?

Did you know that, as well as not being a great look, bad posture can serious impact upon your well-being:

  • Standing tall makes you feel better: It really does. Even our language shows the connection between poor posture and well-being. Some weak is called spineless and someone proud has backbone.
  • Career Problems: Slouching will affect how people perceive you. Don't let your posture get in the way of your aspirations.
  • Seating in a slouched position will back-you-up: Your intestines get folded up which will slow your digestion down. Good posture will rev a sluggish gut up.
  • Makes you look heavier: When you're slouched over your internal organs have nowhere to go but out. You immediately look fatter.
  • Cuts off your circulation: Our bodies are constantly moving fluids and gases around. Prolonged sitting, especially with your legs crossed and slouching will cut off the flow, increase pressure and could cause spider veins.
  • It hurts: Poor posture can add strain to muscles and put stress on the spine. Over time poor posture can even change the anatomical characteristics of the spine, resulting in restricted blood vessels and nerves, as well as problems with muscles, discs and joints. Add to this back pain headaches and fatigue and you'll realise how important it is to have good posture.

So having a good posture is vital. When standing, sitting and walking. This means keeping each part of the body in alignment, balanced and supported. It is not an easy task, which is where our posture corrector comes in.

What to Look Out for When Buying a Posture Corrector

If you've decided that you need to do something about your posture, then you're half way there. It is going to take quite some effort to achieve a good posture. Your body is used to your posture, and it will feel far more natural to you than a "good" posture. That's where a posture corrector comes in. It will basically train your muscles to pull your posture into the right position. Here are some things to consider:

  • Material: Make sure you get a posture corrector that is lightweight, breathable and comfortable. You may want to wear this out and about under your clothes; in this case discretion is going to be important so the brace can go unnoticed.
  • Sizing: Yes the posture corrector needs to be reasonably close fitting but it should not dig in and cut circulation. Take particular care when reading the sizing guide to make sure you get the one that's the right size for you. Too loose and it won't do anything, too tight and you won't be able to wear it!

Some posture correctors are to be worn for just a few minutes, others for a number of hours a day. Think about this and choose the type that suits you and your lifestyle.

What is Posture?

A lot of us do ignore posture, and it's easy to do so as any problems from poor posture can take years to manifest themselves. Posture is simply the position that our body is in when we sit, stand, walk, sleep and anything else you can think of! There are two aspects that affect our posture; skeleton and muscles.

The skeleton provides a framework used by our tissues for protection and shape. Did you know that our bones continue to change throughout our lives? Even when we've finished growing. Our bones are always either losing mass or gaining it, and as they are so fluid they can go into positions and alignments that you don't want.

Muscles hold the skeleton in alignment. Good alignments means that you have good posture. The muscles will mirror your skeleton and adapt and change all the time. If a muscle is weakened then it won't be able to do its job properly. On top of this you need to consider muscle memory. This is often a problem with long term postural problems and can be difficult to change. This is where a posture corrector comes into its own.

Our product reviews are based on how effective the product is; does it work? Then we look at how long-lasting the posture correct is; is it up to the job over time? Finally we consider how easy the posture corrector is to use and finally value for money.

The Best Posture Corrector by Lightstep

Posture Corrector by Lightstep

This classic posture corrector does everything it says it will. Wear for 2-4 hours per day and you will notice a difference within a few weeks. It is comfortable and discreet and is a high quality product. We loved it.

Features

  • Physiotherapist designed posture corrector
  • Quality materials and stitching. Comfortable with flat seams and very discrete.
  • Magnets used to help blood flow
  • 100% Money back guarantee

What's Good About It?

A classic posture corrector that really does a great job. It is also comfortable, discreet and long lasting. We were all extremely happy with this product.

What Could Be Improved?

Just the sizing. For most of us we found that the back posture corrector came up small. By as much as 2 sizes. So be warned, go bigger!

Posture Corrector - Middle Back Exerciser Stand Up Str8

Posture Corrector - Middle Back

Now for something a little different. This posture correct also reverses bad posture but in a different way. You just need to wear it for 2 minutes a day. Well that's not entirely true. You need to wear it for 2 minutes a day and do the ?posture?-improving exercises while wearing it! It's designed to strengthen the muscles in between the shoulder blades allowing proper posture to be held when not using the corrector.

Features

  • Not a brace but a portable and easy to use posture improving device
  • One size fits most
  • Made in the USA

What's Good About It?

If you're not comfortable with wearing a brace for up to 4 hours a day, then this is a great alternative. By strengthening those muscles you will be more easily able to hold the correct posture. As the muscles get stronger you'll get better and better at this.

What Could Be Improved?

Some of our testers complained that the rubber ring at the front was a bit uncomfortable on the chest when exercising. But it is only for two minutes, and we advise wearing a shirt underneath to give yourself a bit of padding! This type of posture corrector means that you still need to actively remember to hold the right posture during the day. It won't help muscle memory but will help you to actively get it right!

Beizi Posture & Spine Corrector for Children, Teenagers and Young Adults

Beizi Posture and Spine Corrector

This posture corrector works in the same way as our #1 pick. But it is designed specifically for younger folk. This is when bad posture really is starting, and if you can stop it in its tracks you won't regret it. That's why we wanted to include this product as we think this is a great idea.

Features

  • Completely undetectable under clothing
  • More comfortable if worn over a vest; and for best results use twice a day for 40-60 minutes a go
  • Washable and Durable and completely undetectable under clothing

What's Good About It?

Designed for younger (and smaller) bodies, this is best used twice a day for shorter periods. A classic posture correcting brace that will give great results if worn for a couple of months as per the instructions.

What Could Be Improved?

You do need to wait a long time for delivery. We found ourselves waiting three weeks for this to arrive! Also, in warmer climes it isn't ideal that you're recommended to wear a vest or t-shirt underneath the posture corrector. May get a little hot with all of those layers on!

Final Verdict on Best Posture Corrector

Really we've got two very similar products in 1st and 3rd, with an alternative for 2nd. It will to a large extent come down to personal choice which you go for, and all three are great. We've gone with the classic posture corrector by Lightstep at #1 as it really does a great job and the quality of the materials means that it is comfortable and breathable and therefore you're more likely to wear it for longer!
